Question 1: what are restriction enzymes used for by bacteria? Q. 2: check your diagram from the textbook to make sure you drew how EcoRI cuts DNA correctly (minute 1:30). Fix your diagram if you had it wrong. Q 3: what are “sticky ends”? How many bases are they? Q 4: what do sticky ends make it easy to do? Q 5: how many molecules does molecule 1 get “cleaved” into? Q 6: why would molecule 2 be cleaved in only one place? Write out the bases on the 2 strands that were mutated. Q 7: how many pieces (fragments) would molecule 2 be cut into Q 8: how can you use gel electrophoresis once the molecules are cut?
